Just after the Carnival season, April is a nice and affordable month to visit Rio. Although the high season is technically over, the weather tends to be nicer than in the peak months thanks to the lower temperatures and reduced rainfall. The great thing about Rio and its location in the Tropics means that it is beach weather almost all year round, however in April you are much less likely to have to fight someone off to get a space to lay your towel down on the beach.

One of Thailand’s biggest celebrations occurs mid-April; the Thai New Year, which is more locally known as Songkran. The celebration goes on for 5 days, with the country turning into one big water fight, with both locals and tourists alike joining in the good natured fun. Although this activity goes on all over the country, the island of Koh Samui is where to head for the most enthusiastic fights, where parties on the beach soon follow. April is a very hot and humid month in the country, so a water fight is often a very welcome cool down.
